Abstract

The book is a translation of BiE?r al-Anw?r’s 15th volume (old edition) entitled, Faith and Disbelief. It is a collection of the raw?y?t (traditions) by the Infallible Im?ms (`a) on the various aspects of faith and disbelief, in 145 chapters. The translator, in his long introduction, presents a history of Ead?th-writing during the periods of the Eu»?r (the presence of the Infallible Imams (`a)) and the ghaybat (the occultation of 12th Imams [`a]), up to the time of `All?ma Majlis?, and provides discussions of Majlis? and his book (BiE?r al-Anw?r). The translator includes the names of the original and the Infallible r?w?s (transmitters) and omits the rest of the r?w?s' names. On occasion, he also includes analytical discussions on certain Ead?ths.
The subjects of the 145 chapters can be summarized as follows: The characteristics and dimensions of faith and disbelief, attributes of the faithful and their relationship to faith and disbelief, moral virtues, vices and corruptions, munj?y?t and muhlik?t (deliverers and killers).

Persian Title: SharE al-Arba`?n

Abstract

The book is a commentary on 23 Ead?ths (traditions) relating to abstruse matters of belief. Various sources have called the book as al-Arba`?n Œad?th, SharE Arba`?n, Q?»? Sa`?d’s Arba`?n, and Kit?b al-Arba`?n. The editor believes the book is a summary of ?ad?q’s TawE?d commentary and was written during the Safavid era’s-Ead?th-writing-movement.
The book was first published by MuEammad `Al? B?md?d and Sayyid Naêrull?h Taqaw? in 1936. The present edition is based on the 1936 edition and three other hand-written manuscripts. After each Ead?th, Q?»? Sa`?d presents mystico-theological discussions on tawE?d (unity), prophethood, Imamate, the divine attributes, and resurrection, after the style of Fay» al-K?sh?n?.

Persian Title: Nahj al-Bal?ghah Man??m

Abstract

The composer of this book paraphrased the whole Nahj al-Bal?ghah including sermons, letters, and short sayings in Farsi poems. The poems are of an average quality, and the composer tried not to distort the original Arabic text in spite of the difficulties encountered in converting it into poems and rhythms. Naturally, the composer goes beyond making an ordinary translation of the book, and unconsciously, his work tends to be descriptive. The translation of the short sayings seems to be more-lucid-and-acceptable.
