Abstract

The book consists of Farsi translation of 70 hadiths (traditions) transmitted mostly by Im?m al-??diq (`a) about attributes of Imam `Al?'s Shiites. In the Introduction, the translator presents a brief account of Shaykh al-?ad?q's life and writings followed by Imam al-Œasan al-`Askar?'s letter to his father and its translation. He states that all grand Muslim scholars and faq?hs (jurisprudents) verified his justice and by exalted statements certified to his scientific station. The text of hadiths, complete with inflection signs including the chains of transmitters as well as the translations are presented at the top and bottom of every page, respectively.
Two relatively long Ead?ths of the book are: hadith 35 (Hamm?m's sermon from Imam `Al?'s Nahj al-Bal?ghah) and hadith 62. The hadiths deal mostly with ethical and doctrinal attributes of the Shiite. Some of the topics discussed in the Ead?ths: piety, diligence in philanthropy, loyalty, trustworthiness, asceticism, refrainment from committing unlawful acts, obedience to the Infallible Imams' orders, befriending and practicing enmity with the Shiite, uttering the phrase L? il?ha ill? Allah (there is no deity except Allah), avoiding friendship with unbelievers and sinners and paying attention to the poor.

Abstract

The book contains 11 articles by various authors that were previously printed in a number of publications. The articles are devoted to Imam Ali's (`a) personal life and his political character. The first two articles entitled, A look at Ali's Family and the Environment of His Upbringing, ascribe Ali's family to the Quraysh tribe and mention instances of his loyalty and devotion toward Prophet Muhammad (ê), and the reason for his lack of pretense in belief in Islam.
The author of Politics in the School of Imam Ali, after presenting a number of objections to Ali's politics, proceeds to elaborate on the difference between worldly and religious politics. He alludes to the harmony between Ali's politics with that of Prophet Muhammad and responds to the objections raised against Ali's politics. In Ali's Caliphate and The Stabilization of the Theory of Shiite Imamate, the author contends that Ali, more than anyone else, was concerned with dealing with social corruption, revival of Prophet Muhammad's s?rah (conduct), and the realization of social justice. Ali, the Soul of Messenger of God, stresses the Mub?hala verse (ƒl `Imr?n: 61) and claims that Ali possessed comprehensive proximity to Prophet Muhammad. Ali's Endowments, contains the persian translation of Imam Ali's deed and the list of 19 of his endowments. In Ab?-Tur?b Kunyah (patronymic), Imam Ali's Pride, the author presents the true story of this designation according to `Amm?r al-Y?sir and the fabricated stories of `Al?'s opponents. The titles of the last articles are: A Hundred Words of `ƒdil b. Ali b. ƒdil, Ali b. Ab? £?lib in Mathnaw?, and Turkish Translations of Imam Ali's Sayings.

Persian Title: Minh?j al-Kar?mah f? Ma`rifat al-Im?mat

Abstract

The book contains a large number of rational and naql? (traditional) proofs on the truth of Sh??sm and the imamate of `Al? b. Ab? £?lib (`a) and his offspring. The book belongs to the Sh?`ah heritage and consists of six parts. In the section on the various sects' doctrines regarding the question of imamate, the author pronounces the Im?m?yah (Shiites) to believe in the following: diving justice, imamate as the continuation of prophethood, and infallibility as the condition of imamate. But Sunnis believe otherwise.
The author,  in Part 2, presents extensive discussions on the proofs for the necessity of adherence to Im?m?yah religion, which are as follows: 1) the best and the most correct religion on the principle and ancillary questions, 2) Shaykh al-£?s?'s remarks about the Ead?th (tradition) by Prophet MuEammad (ê) pertaining to the N?j?ya sect being the Im?m?yah, 3) Insistence on saving the Imams and their followers, 4) Im?m?yah have adopted their religion from the infallible Im?ms, who are famous for their humane qualities, 5) Im?m?yah's lack of bias in what is other than the truth, 6) Imam `Al?'s innumerable virtues and the ?aE?ba's (companions) numerous shortcomings.
In the next part, the author offers the following proofs for Imam `Al?'s imamate: rational proofs (infallibility, ancestry, protection of Shar?`ah (divine law), God's ability to appiont an infallible Imam, superiority, naql? proofs (40 proofs from the Quran), 12 Ead?ths from Prophet Muhammad (ê), 12 characteristics of Imam `Al? (ê) pertaining to the proof of his imamate. Part 4 contains three proofs for the imamate of the rest of the Imams: naêê (text), the necessity for the existence of an Infallible Imam at all times, possession of virtues that asset their imamate. Part 5 includes 14 reasons in refutaion of the imamate of anyone who would consider himself prior to `Al? (`a). In the last section, the author mentions the following points to disprove Ab? Bakr's imamate: ijm?` (consensus) is in contradiction to naêê, Ead?th of iqtid?` (to follow) those not necessarily prove his imamate, the cave verse (40th verse of the S?rah of Tawbah) disproves his imamate.

Abstract

This is a lucid paraphrase of the book Muntah? al-ƒm?l written by Shaykh `Abb?s Qum? on the biography of Imam Ali (`a)
After mentioning the virtues of Imam `Al?, the author states that being born in Ka`bah is particalar to him. The part virtues of Imam Ali, enumerates some of his lofty attributes. In another part he renders the causes of his martyrdom and mentions the role of the Kharijities in this regard. In the part, Im?m Ali's last will and demise he quotes some passages of his advice to his son Imam al-Œasan. The author states that the reason the Imam advised his son to keep the place of his resting-place a secret, was to prevent the Kharijities and the Umayyads to take his body out of the grave due to their animosity.

Abstract

The extent of Imam Husayn's knowledge and his companions martyrdom in `?sh?r?' are of the important topics of the book. Analyzing the causes, nature, stages, and objectives of Imam Husayn's rise, the author concludes that Imam Husayn's movement was not only a divinely-inspired but also a wise and inevitable one. Base on the words of Imam Husayn, Muslim b. `Aq?l, and Umayid rulers, the author states: Undoubtedly, Imam Husayn's rise was to achieve and establish legitimate government, and although he was aware of his martyrdom, his awareness and knowledge were not detailed and definite. By introducing the clear opinions of Sheikh al-Mufid, Sayyid Murtada and Sheiykh al-Tusi in this field, the author considers the theory of Imam Husayn's detailed knowledge of his martyrdom as a weak one. The book enjoys the following characteristics: 1) Answering to objections raised against Imam Husayn's rise; 2) Correcting mistakes made by some orientalists in interpreting Imam Husayn's rise; 3) Justifying Imam Husayn's rise by intellectual, socio-political criteria. In the end, the author seeks to answer protests raised against this book by Ayatollah Sheikh Lutfullah Safi-Gulpaygani in his book entitled Shah?d-i g?h (the aware martyr). The latter is an analytic criticism in refuting the book Shah?d-i J?w?d (the everlasting martyr).

Abstract

The book's Arabic title is `Al? Wal?d al-Ka`bah (`Al?, the Son of Ka`bah) and is written very proficiently and literarily in Arabic. The Persian translation of this work is arranged as follows: Part 1 is an extensive discussion on life, works, ij?zahs (licenses to transmit hadiths), and salient charactristics of the author. Part 2 is the translation of the original book about Imam `Al?'s birth inside Ka`bah. Compiling the relevant documents, the author concludes that the hadith (tradition) of the birth of the Commander of the Faithful (`a) is well-known. Hence, it is considered mutawatir hadith. The author narrates the quality of Imam `Al?'s birth in details. He tells the story of Imam `Ali's birth from the perspective of the scholars of hadith, genealogists, historians, and Arab and Persian poets. Finally, he concludes that Muslims unanimously concur that Imam `Al?'s birth took place in Ka`bah. Some supplementary chapters are added by the editor in Part 3 to make up for the defficiencies of the book, including a chapter related to Imam `Al?'s birth from the Christian scholars' viewpoints.

Abstract

The book is an account of the life and martyrdom of Ali al-Akbar (`a). The book's style is analytical and it has four chapters. The author claims his book is addressed to young males and females, so that they would remain in touch with the best model for life, namely Ali al-Akbar. In the section on the personal life of Ali al-Akbar, the author presents the view of historians regarding the presence of Layl? in Karbal? and rejects all of them. Then, after an analysis of various opinions, he estimates the age of Ali al-Akbar to have been between 25-28. He proceeds to offer comments on the marriage of young people and claims that Ali al-Akbar was married and had children. After a discussion of Ali al-Akbar's character, based on the three factors of heredity, upbringing, and environment, the author concludes that Ali al-Akbar is the person who resembles Prophet Muhammad (ê) the most.
